Shanxi Agricultural University 山西农业大学

Shanxi Agricultural University has a long history of running a school. It has been established for 110 years. The predecessor of the school was the private Mingxian School founded by Mr. Kong Xiangxi in 1907. In 1916, pre-university courses were added, agriculture courses were opened in 1928, and engineering courses were opened in 1931. After the July 7th Incident in 1937, the school was forced to move south, and in 1939 it moved to Jintang County, Sichuan. In 1940, the Ministry of Education of the National Government approved the establishment of the Mingxian College of Agriculture and Engineering. In 1943, it was rebuilt as Mingxian College. It was changed from a junior college to an undergraduate program. The departments were expanded from 3 to 8, namely, the Department of Agronomy, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, and Agriculture. Department of Economics, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering, Department of Textile Engineering, Department of Business Administration, Department of Banking. In 1947, Mingxian College moved from Jintang to Chengdu to run a school. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Mingxian College moved back to the original site of Mingxian School in Taigu, Shanxi in November 1950. On October 1, 1951, the Shanxi Provincial People's Government took over Mingxian College and changed it from private to public to formally establish Shanxi Agricultural College. In 1971, Shanxi Agricultural Labor University was merged into the institute. In 1975, three branches were established in Xiyang, Yanbei, and Yuncheng, namely Dazhai, Yanbei, and Yuncheng Agricultural College. On July 27, 1979, Dazhai Agricultural College was merged into Shanxi Agricultural College with the approval of the State Council. In the same year, Shanxi Agricultural College was renamed Shanxi Agricultural University and was listed as a national key university. Since then, the Shanxi Provincial People's Government approved the abolition of Yanbei and Yuncheng Agricultural Colleges and merged them into Shanxi Agricultural University. In October 2019, the Shanxi Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government decided that Shanxi Agricultural University and Shanxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences would jointly reform and establish a new Shanxi Agricultural University.
